2026 Rules Updates

✨New!✨
Buh, Bye! IS BACK! Why did it take so long!? And there’s New Rules too?!?!
As of the next Age beginning in January 2027, the Instant Action card Buh, Bye! is no longer banned in Organized Play Events and must now be used in all Hero decks!
1. Why did it take so long?
Buh Bye has been officially banned since January 2025.
The main reason why it was removed in the first place is because the original Dice Throne rules contained inconsistencies and edge cases and timing issues that would be difficult to rule on consistently and fairly. Given that Organized Play was just starting out, this card being banned was done to help avoid conflicts and foster the community.
To get Buh, Bye! back, I have been working and evaluating numerous solutions to Dice Throne’s rules. The main goal of the rule changes were to not overhaul the system, but to create a clear and simple set of rules to address the timing of Actions that interrupt the normal flow of play.
The original rules had many many more technical opportunities for interruptions. Under the original rules, your opponent could have needed dozens of opportunities to be able to interrupt you during a turn! This also would have been a huge drag on the Digital experience, especially when a large number of opportunities are not actually needed, but technically should have been available.
At the end of the day, I am very happy with the new rule updates. One key note I will say, is that the following updates/changes to the rules actually had no effect on the original “1-minute-Pitch” of Dice Throne!, nor have any of the Golden Rules of Dice Throne changed! It’s still the same game, just with clearer rules and a lot less exceptions and edge cases. And no, you still can’t do that in the middle of an Ultimate…
2. A number of new rule updates for Dice Throne will become effective as of January 1, 2027.
Important Note: While the changes seem like a lot, these new rules are actually not very different from the previous set of rules. It is likely that players may not experience any difference in a standard game. However, these new rules do help to create clear breaks in play, and give a better and more clear understanding of which Player can do what, and when, and avoid any and all timing issues.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a) First, here is the TL;DR:
1. Active Player: Always gets the “first chance” to perform Actions and modify dice.
2. Non-Active Player: Can only perform Actions when trying to alter Offensive Ability dice, or alter their Defense dice, or when dmg is about to be received.
3. During all other die rolls (non-Roll Attempts), ALL players can only perform Actions that mess with these dice, that’s it.
4. When you run out of cards, no more reshuffling your Discard Pile to make a new deck.
b) Next, here is a downloadable PDF with a full deep-dive into the 4 New Rules. Link: Full Rules PDF
